Lamb Building Chambers is a well-respected barristers’ chambers with offices in Brighton and London. The team were facing multiple IT problems that were affecting the daily operations of the London chamber and causing major IT headaches. These included:

• Lengthy downtime. A lack of preventative maintenance was resulting in frequent outages and staff being unable to work for extended periods of time
• Avoidable hardware failure. A neglected service pack update had caused a critical hardware failure
• Performance bottlenecks. Uneven virtual machine distribution and a single 1gb/s network connection was creating significant performance issues and frequent SQL server dropouts
• Slow backups and replication. The congested network connection was also making data backups and replications unnecessarily tricky, further affecting productivity across the business

• Network optimisation: We increased network capacity by implementing Link Aggregation Groups (LAGs) across virtual hosts and switches, enabling the entire Lamb Building team to work seamlessly in the office and remotely
• Secure wireless: We also migrated the wireless network to a cloud-based controller and implemented separate public and private SSIDs, ensuring a secure environment for Lamb Building staff and guests, and helping to keep confidential client data secure
• Server hardware optimisation: Upgraded CPU and Disks to more appropriate parts to provide increased IOPS and bandwidth to datastores, and more cores to provide more compute to virtual machines
• Standardised infrastructure: We reorganised communication cabinets for improved organisation and access
• Ongoing preventative maintenance & onsite visits: Our IT support contract with Lamb Building Contractors includes regular maintenance and onsite visits to prevent future hardware failures and downtime
