AJT Managed IT Services: Our sustainability efforts

As well as supporting our local Brighton community, we are also taking significant steps to improve the sustainability of the work that we do. Choosing a partner who cares about the planet is becoming increasingly important for businesses in Brighton and Sussex. We’re committed to doing our part. Find out more about our efforts below.

We take back old computers and other hardware from any clients we supply with new machines. As an IT equipment supplier, it is our responsibility to take back, securely erase and recycle any computers we replace. If you choose to recycle your old computers with us, you can be safe in the knowledge that not only is your data responsibly destroyed, but also that we’re helping you do your bit for the planet.

One of the partners we work with is CPR – Computer Equipment Recycling. CPR is compliant with both the WEEE directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive and GDPR. They dispose of our clients’ old equipment responsibly rather than send it to landfill. All digital data is destroyed before the old machines are refurbished and re-sold, with profits donated to UK charity. Any carbon footprint left by collecting the old computer equipment is offset by further donations to UK carbon offset programmes.

We’re committed to making our in-person IT support visits as sustainable as possible. That’s why over three quarters of our vehicle fleet is now electric or hybrid. This allows our team to reach your Brighton or Sussex business for on-site support with a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional vehicles.

But our commitment doesn’t stop there. We primarily charge our electric and hybrid vehicles using the clean energy generated by the solar panels on our office roof. This direct use of renewable energy further minimises our environmental impact and demonstrates our dedication to a truly modern and responsible approach to service delivery. As proud members of the A J Taylor Electrical Contractors family, we work from the AJT offices just off Lewes Road in Brighton. As certified Tesla Powerwall installers, A J Taylor Electrical are practicing what they preach, having installed 2 Tesla Powerwalls in the office we share.

The Powerwalls store the solar power generated by the solar panels that cover the office roof. The electricity generated powers the office equipment, air conditioning, electric vehicles and helps run our server equipment overnight. We often generate more electricity than we use and so send some of the excess back to the grid.
